This is the first pillar of S.E.E.D.S.. When you read the words Developmental Philosophy what does it make you think? As professional educators we thought, "education is based on the developmental needs of the person, or child." Yet, what we found to be true in actions was quite the opposite. We found that many educators who employ the term Developmental Philosophy cater the teaching and as a result the teachings to the average child.

For S.E.E.D.S. this was a huge deviation from what we considered the term "Developmental Philosophy" to be. We saw it as an inclusive concept. As a way of teaching that allowed for each child to learn, flourish and grow. Therefore, it became the S.E.E.D.S. first and most significant pillar. We believe in EVERY child, not the average child. We do not believe in statistics that through out the outliers, the ones that just do not fit the average mold. We believe that every single child, family and community are unique and therefore development is different for each person.

Every S.E.E.D.S. lesson or activity is centered around making sure teachers (that means parents too) understand how to observe children and then engage children in a learning opportunity that is understandable, reasonable and allows for children to develop through their own learning abilities. We do not believe in testing and standardizing. S.E.E.D.S. maintains the developmental philosophy as the guiding path for all that we do. We think teachers and parents should too.  Just think, how would you feel if people took your learning needs into account by asking you what you need or you're interested in? We at S.E.E.D.S. can bet you'd love it. No one wants to learn something they aren't interested in, in ways that make it even more uninteresting. With the S.E.E.D.S. Developmental Philosophy it's hard to not teach things in a developmentally appropriate and fulfilling way. The best part of it, is that the teacher gets to learn too.
